Mardi Gras is officially over, which means the kickoff of Lafayette Association for Retarded Citizens' annual bead drive.
It's the perfect time to put unwanted beads to good use!
"We collect thousands of beads."
Susan Nini with L.A.R.C. says the tons of beads they'll collect throughout the year will provide jobs for many of their members who have developmental disabilities.
Monday through Friday their duties will include sorting beads, cleaning them up and packaging them to sale for next year.
"Like a typical job, they'll get paid for this. It's for a great cause," said Nini.
The non profit organization also accepts other Mardi Gras items, such as stuffed animals
