Missy Grimmett, 2010 Chairman of the Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber of Commerce, has announced that Tom Voinche, KATC TV 3 morning personality, will serve as this year's Master of Ceremonies for the Annual Chamber Banquet & Awards Program. The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the new EvangelineDownsEventCenter in Opelousas.
Thomas "Tom" Carver Voinche, Jr. was born in Crowley in 1946. Voinche is a 1965 graduate of St. Edmund High School in Eunice and earned his BA and MS from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His career in communication began in 1961 when he went to work for his father who was then general manager of radio station KEUN-AM in Eunice.
Voinche's nearly half-century of broadcasting experience includes announcing, commercial production, scriptwriting, news, sports, sales, management, ownership and consulting at various stations throughout Acadiana.
For the past 17 years, Voinche has been working in the news department of KATC-TV 3 and is the co-anchor of "Good Morning Acadiana" which airs weekdays from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. He lives in Eunice with his wife, Bonnie, and dog "Tater."
Each year during the banquet, the Chamber of Commerce recognizes a man and/or woman for their contributions, above and beyond the normal, to the parish.
Tickets are prices at $30 each and must be purchased in advance. The event will begin with a social at 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. The Banquet begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.
