Karen Weakens-Warnings Extended

Tropical Storm Karen has weakened again. Winds now 50mph. The new track is very similar to the earlier forecast, perhaps slightly west. A Tropical Storm WARNING is now in effect from Morgan City eastward to the mouth of the Pearl River. This is an upgrade from a Watch that was in effect earlier in the day.

Karen is located at 25.6N and 90.2W or about 250 miles SSW of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Winds are now near 50mph. Karen is moving NNW at 10mph and the central pressure is near 1003mb. Karen is still expected to move northward toward the mouth of the Mississippi River, then turn northeast Saturday into Sunday as a strong cold front pushes in from the northwest. Impacts are still expected to be minimal across the Acadiana area.
