Kaplan police receives call from "officer" asking for donation; warns citizens

Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams is warning citizens about someone posing as a police officer and asking for donations. The man called Chief Adams' cell phone but reached his voicemail and also called the chief's family members, citizens in Kaplan and a Kaplan Police Dept. detective and his wife. The chief believes the man had no idea he called him and one of his detectives. "I'm sure he's clueless," Adams said.

The detective asked the caller which department he represents, but the man wouldn't identify a particular department. "He cut the call short," Adams said. The number that appeared on the chief and detective's cell phone is 337-453-2571. When the chief called back, a recording says "please enter your conference room pin number."
