An undercover drug deal lead to a high speed chase where two suspects were hospitalized and arrested on multiple charges, according to a news release from the Vermilion/ Municipal Narcotics Task Force.
Francis Trahan, 35, of Kaplan negotiated the undercover purchase of crystal methamphetamine with undercover agents, according to authorities. Agents say they were able to purchase suspected methamphetamine from Trahan and were able to ascertain Trahan's plan to pick up more of the drug from his supplier.
According to the press release, agents followed Trahan into Iberia Parish where he allegedly made a couple of stops and picked up a female passenger.
He then went back to Vermilion Parish where deputies say he committed a traffic violation. The patrolman activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle, which he did, but then deputies say Trahan took off once they began approaching the vehicle.
Trahan was unable to control his vehicle due to his speed and ended up crashing the vehicle on La Hwy 82 North, according to authorities. As officers pulled up to the scene, aid was given to Trahan and the passenger. Agents say they located suspected marijuana, and suspected crystal methamphetamine.
Trahan and his passenger Vanessia Poirrier, 34, of New Iberia, were taken to a local hospital to be cleared by medical personnel.
Trahan is accused of being in possession of narcotics and crystal methamphetamine. Agents say they also located a large amount of US currency.
Trahan was charged with possession with the intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, aggravated flight from an officer, two counts of possession of a schedule IV narcotic (Alprazxolam and Diazepam), transactions involving drug proceeds, Operating a Vehicle while intoxicated, general speed, and driving under suspension. Poirrier was charged with possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.
