A 16 year old winds up in the hospital after he claims he was beaten by St Martinville Police Officers. The incident happened early last night right after a Mardi Gras parade.
TJ Falier said, "he grabbed me by my head and picked me up."
His sister, Latoya Grey, said"grabbing him by his hair and beating him. That just didn't make any sense for a 16 year old."
TJ said he was trying to find out why she was getting handcuffed by an officer. He said he asked what was happening and then about six police officers swarmed him.
The victims said they were walking down Main Street after the parade, heading to their grandmother's house.
Joshua Zennon witnessed it all, he said "we were just clowning around dancing with them."
Grey said she noticed the officers looked mad and told everyone they should go, but the officers were headed straight for them. First Latoya was handcuffed, she claims officers told her for disturbing the peace, and then her brother TJ.
Zennon said, "they just swarmed on him. Nobody was looking for trouble. It was pointless."
"The officer got in front of me and slammed me on my head," Tj explained. "I told them, to slow down because I was dizzy, so he threw me in a cop car and then I passed out."
He was taken to the hospital, but checked out okay, walking away with bumps and bruises.
He said, "I'm upset, I feel mistreated."
Latoya said after being taken to the police station, she was ticketed for disturbing the peace. Her younger brother said he hasn't been charged with anything. The family plans on filing complaints against the officers involved in this incident. The St Martinville Police Chief tells KATC this case is under investigation.
