OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The St. Landry Parish Council as passed a resolution allowing president Don Menard to continue negotiations with state officials and private landowners to locate a proposed regional juvenile therapeutic center in the parish.
That decision Thursday night followed a lengthy presentation by state juvenile justice officials and Menard and public discussion.
Menard said a landowner, that he would not name, is negotiating with state officials for the purchase of the property.
Deputy Secretary of the State Office of Juvenile Justice Mary Livers said the facility will have a dormitory-style arrangement with 12-inmate teams who live together as a family unit.
