LAFAYETTE - Judges have been selected for the Annual Mardi Gras Costume Contest at King's Court to be held February 16, Mardi Gras day. The King's Court will be located at Parc Sans Souci on the corner of Polk and Vermilion Streets. The costume contest is free, and it's open to children and adults. The theme this year is "Saints Fever".
The judges for the costume contest are: Kathie Zimmermann of The Daily Advertiser; Gerald Breaux, executive director of the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission; Gary Arnold, host of Passe Partout on KLFY TV-10; Tracy Wirtz, host of Good Morning Acadiana on KATC TV-3;and Linda Terry, President of Downtown Lafayette Unlimited, will serve as the Chief Judge.
The Side Show band will perform at Parc Sans Souci immediately after the costume contest and between parades.
Contestants will be judged in five classifications:
Pre-School, 6-10 Years Old, 11-15 Years Old, Adults, and Groups. Contestants who are not in groups will be judged in three categories: Best Theme - "Saints Fever", Most Original and Most Comical. Contestants in the Group classifications will compete in three different categories: Best Family Group, Best Adult Group, and Best Adult Couple.
Pre-registration is not required. Costume contestants are asked to sign up, in costume, prior to the 9 a.m. start of the costume judging.
