NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A judge's refusal to involuntarily dismiss a lawsuit challenging tolls on the Crescent City Connection bridge at New Orleans has given toll opponents some hope.
State District Judge William Morvant in Baton Rouge made the decision Monday. The courtroom battle over the tolls is continuing this week.
Opponents have asked Morvant to throw out results of an election extending the tolls beyond their 2012 expiration date. They question the use of provisional ballots given to more than 1,000 people who attempted to vote at their correct precincts in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes. Those provisional ballots, given to voters whose eligibility has been questioned, limited their participation to federal elections.
The local toll renewal passed by just 36 votes.
