A judge has ruled in a lawsuit against the City of Opelousas. In 2011, the city's Civil Service Commission sued the city, Mayor Don Cravins, the Opelousas Board of Alderman and 29 unclassified employees. The commission sought clarification of which employees are considered classified and unclassified. Judge James Doherty Jr. ruled eight employees are considered unclassified and 17 are classified and are subject to the Civil Service rules and regulations.
