Judge Rules in Abortion Clinic's License

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge judge has indefinitely
barred state health officials from enforcing the Sept. 3 suspension of a north Louisiana abortion clinic's license.
During a hearing Tuesday, J.E. Cullens, who represents Hope Medical Group for Women, argued the Shreveport-based clinic is a law-abiding business that provides a service that is distasteful
and unpopular to many.
Department of Health and Hospitals spokeswoman Lisa Faust tells The Advocate that department attorneys will review the transcript of the hearing and make recommendations on how to proceed.
District Judge R. Michael Caldwell had issued a temporary restraining order against DHH on Sept. 14 after the clinic complained that its license was suspended without warning or a hearing.
