A federal magistrate has recommended clearing all but three defendants in a lawsuit filed by former Lafayette police officers. In a Wednesday hearing, Judge Patrick Hanna recommended dismissing the plaintiffs' constitutional claims except for a First Amendment complaint stemming from an alleged "code of silence" in the department. Hanna also called for the dismissal of the complaints against the defendants in their "official capacities." However, Chief Jim Craft, Major Jackie Alfred, and LCG Chief Administrative Officer Dee Stanley would remain as defendants in their "individual capacities." These recommendations will now be sent to federal Judge Richard Haik for final approval.
