THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Lafourche Parish judge has ruled that a pit bull that bit a 12-year-old boy without provocation must die.
The Comet reports that the dog's owner, Marie Bermudez, agreed to the order handed down Monday by Judge Walt Lanier.
The dog named Duke bit the boy's thigh as he rode his bicycle Sept. 27 in Larose. The boy's mother, Jaime Estay, says her son underwent surgery at Children's Hospital in New Orleans and doctors expect a full recovery.
Mike Jimenez, staff attorney for the sheriff's office, says the dog probably will be killed Tuesday at the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter.
Bermudez is scheduled for court Oct. 27 on charges of letting the dog roam at large and failing to vaccinate it.
