A judge will re-examine whether a man's 1973 murder sentence should be reconsidered. Larry Sylvester was convicted of murder 41 years ago when he was 15-years-old. The St. Landry Parish man has asked a judge to review his sentence after the U.S. Supreme Court last year ruled life sentences for juveniles violated the Eight Amendment's prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment, requiring courts to revisit cases in which juveniles were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Thursday, a judge took the case under advisement and in the coming weeks both parties will present their sides. Sylvester said he was influenced by his 30-year-old accomplice, and considering his young age, it should be considered should the judge re-sentence him. The judge will have a decision in three to four weeks, according to the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court's Office.
