MANSFIELD, La. (AP) - State Judge Robert Burgess has denied motions seeking to halt next month's trial of a DeSoto Parish man accused of killing a Stonewall boy almost four years ago.
Burgess said his ruling may not be the last word. He noted the potential of an appeal to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal.
At issue during a Wednesday's hearing was the motion filed by lead defense counsel Daryl Gold to withdraw from his representation of Brian Horn because of an effort by the state public defender board to decertify him from the defense of capital cases
Horn is accused in the asphyxiation death of 12-year-old Justin Bloxom.
Without any additional delays, The Times reports jury selection will begin March 11 in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The trial will take place in Mansfield.
