NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A U.S. District Court judge has approved a modified desegregation plan for Tangipahoa Parish public schools.
Charles Patin, the school board's attorney, tells The Advocate the parties filed a draft of the modified plan Tuesday and U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle gave his verbal agreement during a Wednesday status conference.
The compromise contains several elements negotiated by the parties in the aftermath of the failure of four school-tax proposals in the April 30 election.
