JONESBORO, La. (AP) - Jackson Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested Jonesboro Mayor Leslie Thompson on a malfeasance charges.
Sheriff Andy Brown says deputies, working alongside officials from the Legislative Auditor's Office, had been investigating Thompson for about two years.
Thompson was booked into Jackson Parish Correctional Center on three counts of malfeasance. He was released on a $15,000 bond.
Brown said he could not comment on the specific nature of the charges against Thompson.
In October, Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera said the town's books were in such bad shape that accountants haven't been able to audit them since 2007.
It was unclear whether Thompson has an attorney.
