Parish President Joey Durel can be seen on GMA every Thursday around 6:40am to answer your questions. This week Joey Durel answered the following questions:
From Steve McMillan: Are there ordinances regarding open burning of tree limbs and cut grass in the parish in residential areas. What can be done about this as it is becoming a problem with the smoke and persons with respiratory problems as well as a hazard since it has been very dry.
Answer: Within the city limit of Lafayette and The Lafayette Fire departments Emergency Operation's response areas, no open burning is allowed. This excludes recreation burning only. Contact fire prevention for all this specific information.
From Leigh McIntyre: The new park-like area at the corner of Camellia Blvd. and Kaliste Saloom is nice. However, I can't help but notice that lots of money was spent on lighting for the retention ponds and even a parking lot but the sidewalks around the ponds are not completed. Will these sidewalks ever be completed so people can enjoy the area and put these expensive lights to good use?
Answer: Funding was not available in the project for the sidewalks. Because of the limited capital dollars that are available for other important infrastructure improvements, the sidewalks along the pond are not a priority at this time. The main function of the pond is to provide for flood water retention/detention. The recreational and aesthetic aspects of the area are secondary.
