BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal is announcing his legislative proposals for revamping Louisiana's higher education system at a conference with college leaders.
Members of Louisiana's five higher education boards and their system presidents are getting together Monday at the Trusteeship
Conference to talk about common issues and problems.
More than $300 million in state funding has been stripped from
colleges in the last two years and deep cuts are on the horizon.
Proposals include raising student tuition and fees and merging the University of New Orleans with the Southern University at New
Orleans campus. Also, a third of academic programs are under review
to determine if they should be eliminated because they have two few
students.
Jindal has yet to say which ideas he'll support.
