NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal praised Texas Gov. Rick Perry after Perry bowed out of the Republican race for president on Thursday, calling Perry a "close friend and a great governor."
Jindal endorsed Perry last September.
In a statement, Jindal praised Perry and the people of Texas for aiding Louisiana after Hurricane Gustav.
Jindal said he spoke with Perry Thursday morning. "I wished him and his wonderful wife Anita all the best and look forward to visiting with them soon," he said in the statement.
Perry endorsed Newt Gingrich.
Jindal told The Associated Press later Thursday that he would not endorse another candidate in the primary.
