Jindal meets with Taiwan president on Asian trip

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - At the start of his Asian business development trip, Gov. Bobby Jindal has met with the president of Taiwan and executives from Formosa Plastics Corp.

The Republican governor's office said Jindal and President Ma Ying-jeou talked about shared economic interests between Louisiana and Taiwan, which imports agricultural, energy and chemical products from the state.

Formosa has a plant in Baton Rouge. Jindal's office said the governor and leaders of the company talked about possible growth in Louisiana.

Jindal left Saturday for the week-long trip, which also will take him to Japan and South Korea. It's the governor's first overseas economic development mission in office.

He said he'll be meeting with leaders of 10 companies in the energy, chemical and manufacturing industries, most of which are considering projects in Louisiana.
