JENNINGS, La. (AP) - State police arrested a Jennings woman accused of extorting an elderly man out of more than $20,000.
Troopers tell The Advocate 27-year-old Brooke Cormier was arrested Thursday following a joint investigation involving the FBI.
Troopers say Cormier was calling an elderly man in the Jennings area and claiming that she was wrongfully arrested and charged with prostitution.
After meeting the woman, troopers say the victim gave her more than $20,000 in the past two months
Authorities say Cormier contacted the victim Thursday and requested $1,900 to pay fictitious fines imposed by a fictitious judge.
Cormier was booked on extortion, theft over $500 and impersonating a police officer, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
It was unclear whether Cormier has an attorney.
