JENNINGS, La. (AP) - The Jennings City Council is considering raising the annual pay of future mayors from $52,000 to $65,000.

A public hearing on the proposal will be held June 12.

Council President Stevie VanHook tells the American Press the current mayor's salary is considerably lower for the work that is required of the position and when compared with those of other mayors along Interstate 10 and in cities of similar size to Jennings.

The mayor of Rayne makes $73,083 a year; the mayor of Crowley makes $65,370; and the mayor of Abbeville makes $60,304.
