NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The federal corruption trial of Mose
Jefferson and a former New Orleans city councilwoman has been
postponed until Oct. 4.
Jefferson, the brother of former congressman William Jefferson,
and Renee Gill Pratt had been scheduled to stand trial in New
Orleans on Aug. 2. The delay was ordered by U.S. District Judge
Ivan Lemelle, who said he expects the trial to last two or three
weeks.
The two are charged with conspiring to loot charities they
controlled out of about $1 million.
Jefferson is serving a 10-year federal sentence for bribing a
former Orleans School Board president.
