JENNINGS, La. (AP) - Jefferson Davis Parish would reach its sales tax limits if the police jury calls for an additional half cent sales for maintenance of a new parish jail.
The American Press reports the measure could go before voters in May.
Bonding attorney Thomas Barrett told the police jury on Wednesday the half cent would bring the total sales tax collections in the parish to the maximum that can be collected without state approval. Barrett says the tax must be approved by the majority of voters.
The police jury has until March to place the item on the May 3 ballot.
