A two-vehicle crash involving a dump truck in Jeff Davis Parish claimed the life of a Welsh man this afternoon.
Shortly before 3 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the crash on Hoke Road just south of Interstate 10 one mile east of Welsh, according to police.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Toyota Corolla driven by 82-year-old Harold J. Daigle of Welsh was traveling east on the south I-10 Frontage Road when he failed to yield the right-of-way to a dump truck traveling north on Hoke Road driven by 65-year-old Lamuel L. Trahan of Jennings. The vehicle Daigle was driving was struck by the dump truck.
Daigle was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt. Impairment on the part of Daigle is suspected to be a factor in the crash, according to the police. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
