Former New Orleans City Council member Jay Batt has been named president of the Sugar Bowl Committee for the 2013-14 year.
The organization said Thursday that Batt will become the group's 56th president and oversee the Jan. 2, 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl as well as its preparations for the new college football playoff format set to begin following the 2014 regular season.
Batt says serving on the committee since 1998 has been one of his most enjoyable experiences and he welcomes the new challenge the presidency will bring.
Batt, who will succeed Jack Laborde, is the co-owner of several Jos. A. Bank Clothiers in the South and served on the City Council from 2002-2006.
