CLINTON, La. (AP) - East Feliciana Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a jail employee and a woman visitor to the parish jail during an investigation of drug smuggling.
Jail Warden Ray Newman tells The Advocate 21-year-old Kabarris Jackson of Clinton was fired Wednesday night and booked with criminal mischief during the investigation.
Newman said Jackson, who has worked for the sheriff's office for more than a year, is accused of attempting to assist in smuggling drugs into the Clinton jail.
Jackson was released on $1,000 bail.
In a related arrest, deputies booked 30-year-old Kimberly Bell of Woodville, Miss., with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and introducing contraband into a penal institution.
Newman said Bell concealed the drugs in a package of cigarettes.
