CLINTON, La. (AP) - A jury has acquitted a Jackson, La., man of second-degree murder in the death of a man who was beaten, run over by a car and set on fire while he was still alive.
The jury in Clinton returned the verdict Wednesday in favor of 54-year-old Lionel Allen.
Authorities said the body of 28-year-old Andre Turner was found in swamp by hunters a day after the killing on Dec. 2, 2007. The Advocate said that prosecutors contended that Turner was killed after $6,000 from a robbery of a bar owner was divided between four people, including Turner.
Two other people are charged in the case, including one who testified against Allen in exchange for a reduced charge.
