20 students completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program at J.S. Aucoin Elementary School. The fifth graders celebrated their graduation prior to the Christmas holiday with their teachers Rogina Hartley and Kellie Kinkle. The 10 week long D.A.R.E. Program teaches students about the dangers of drug abuse and includes lessons on bullying and peer pressure. Graduates received certificates, pencils, stickers and other D.A.R.E. memorabilia to celebrate their accomplishments. At the end of the 10 week program, students are asked to write an essay on what they learned. Jeremiah Singleton won the contest. Cristian Nguyen was chosen as runner-up. Dalton Malone received the Sheriff's Award for his outstanding enthusiasm and interest in the D.A.R.E. curriculum The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office manages the program in 7 schools across the parish for approximately 500 students.
