IPSO Competes in Jeremy Triche Narcotics Detection K-9 Competition

The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 Division competed in the Second Annual Jeremy Triche Narcotics Detection K-9 competition on Saturday. The competition wass held in LaPlace and honors St. John the Baptist Parish Deputy Jeremy Triche who was shot and killed in the line of duty in August of 2012. Over thirty highly trained K-9 teams competed in this competition that involves the detection of narcotics hidden in desks, filing cabinets, electrical fixtures and other various items.

1st place and Louisiana State Champion was awarded to Deputy Ryan Carlin and his K-9 partner Onyx of the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office. Also placing in the competition were Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 team members Deputy Cody Mallet and his K-9 partner Jef, second place; Deputy Rusty Meaux and his K-9 partner Reddick along with Deputy Trevor Picard and his K-9 partner Barri, third place.

Sheriff Louis Ackal states, "The results of this competition is indicative of the excellence of the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 Division and far exceeds the original concept of narcotics detection K-9's."
