The early morning fire at a vacant home in Opelousas has not yet been ruled an arson, but investigators said they do not believe it was an accident.
The fire happened in the 500 block of East North Street. Charles Nathan with the Opelousas Fire Department says the cause is still under investigation.
"It's suspicious," Nathan says. "I'm not saying arson, but I don't think it was accidental."
The Opelousas vacant house fire comes on the heels of seven abandoned house fires in Lafayette over the past week, as well as several abandoned house fires in Baton Rouge. All of them have been ruled arson.
Nathan says he hopes the Opelousas fire is an isolated incident.
