Investigators: Mutiple points of origin, unknown ignition for Opelousas arson

The Opelousas Fire Department reports that last week's early morning fire at an abandoned home on East North St. in Opelousas likely was arson, but appears unrelated to any of the recent Lafayette arsons.

Asst. Chief Charles Mason described Friday's blaze as both "isolated" and "suspicious" in nature, with no clear motive, he said, why anyone would set a fire at this uninsured property.

Mason said that investigators have determined multiple points of origin for the fire, but haven't yet discovered an ignition source. According to Mason, the fire originated on the front porch, an interior room, and in a hallway.

Investigators said no witnesses have come forward and the blaze is still under investigation.
