Interstate 10 is shut down due to an 18-wheeler leaking a poisonous gas. Silicon Sodium Tetrafluoride is an inhalation hazard. An 18-wheeler driver noticed he was leaking the gas and pulled over at milepost 108, in the eastbound lane. Because of the winds, the vapor is going right over I-10. The interstate is shut down eastbound at the I-49 interchange (Lafayette) and is being rerouted to Highway 190. It is also shut down westbound at the Lobdell exit, also being rerouted to Highway 190. Estimated time for the closure is unknown. Emergency crews are on scene and a cleanup crew is en route. As or right now, no evacuations are needed. If you need more information for road closures, you should call State Police at 511.
