NEW ORLEANS (AP) - As the deadline for signing up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act approaches, community organizations and clinics in Louisiana said the number of people looking for help in the process has increased in recent weeks.
An official at a Vietnamese community center in eastern New Orleans says there has been a steady increase in people interested in signing up in the past week or so. One problem: She said the Healthcare.gov website was getting slow last week as interest increased.
A dozen counselors are on staff to help sign up people in time to meet Monday's deadline at the St. Thomas Community Health Center.
In northwestern Louisiana, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover said last week that navigators were booked up with appointments through the final enrollment hours.
