Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says senior citizens who have health coverage with Universal Health Care Insurance Company Medicare Advantage plans will lose coverage beginning Sunday. Donelon says the Louisiana Department of Insurance suspended UHCI's certificate of authority. According to Donelon, this move came after the Florida Department of Insurance placed UHCI in receivership after regulators deemed the company to be insolvent.
In all, 321 Louisiana residents will be affected--including six in Evangeline Parish, eight in Lafayette Parish, and 119 in St. Mary Parish. For more information, affected customers should call their local Medicare office.
