LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A 23-year-old Lafayette man has pleaded guilty to the November 2009 aggravated battery of a Lafayette Parish correctional officer.
Antonio Damon Shaw was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and battery of a correctional officer.
Prosecutor J.N. Prather said Shaw was accused of holding a "shank," which was made from a toothbrush and a razor blade, up against a correctional officer's throat.
The incident occurred while Shaw was incarcerated at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center awaiting trial on a simple robbery charge.
Prather tells The Advocate that Shaw received a seven-year prison sentence Tuesday that will run concurrently with his guilty
plea to the simple robbery charge.
