The search for escaped inmate Brian Soileau continues into its fifth day in Evangeline Parish. Brian Soileau was a State prisoner and escaped from the Pine Prairie Correctional Center Thursday night.
Sheriff Eddie Soileau has issued an update on the search, saying State Police, the U.S. Marshal's Office and the Angola Chase Team are using blood hounds and a helicopter to canvass the area in which the escapee was last believed to be seen, which is in an area between Pine Prairie and the Beaver community towards Oakdale.
The Sheriff says the electrical fence which would have likely prevented this escape was not properly functioning at the time, and the escape warning horn was not sounded to warn the public. Warden Terry Hines did not disclose exactly how Brian Soileau escaped, but said they know what happened and have fixed the problem.
Warden Hines also said since Thursday additional barbed wire fencing has been put in place around the prison, a new, louder siren has been ordered along with a new, high-tech camera system. The Warden and Pine Prairie Mayor Terry Savant also said they are working on implementing a reverse 9-1-1 warning system that citizens can sign up for through their telephone numbers.
