ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - A state district judge has
sentenced a Louisiana State Penitentiary inmate to life in prison
in the death of another inmate.
The Advocate reports 31-year-old Andre Leday acted as his own
attorney in a March trial for the 2004 beating death of inmate
Michael Bradford. A West Feliciana Parish jury found him guilty of
second-degree murder after about an hour of deliberations.
District Judge William G. Carmichael sentenced Leday Thursday.
Leday was serving a 40-year sentence for manslaughter when
authorities say he beat Bradford to death with a piece of concrete
tied in the corner of a pillow case.
