Private First Class Zach Parker was attempting to save some of his fellow soldiers when he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). He was injured badly but was able to assist another injured soldier before tending to his own wounds. He was able to tie tourniquets on his on injuries before help arrived.

Now his family is hoping they can continue to afford to visit him in San Antonio. Parker is currently at a military hospital where he is recovering from his injuries. Unfortunately, his injuries were very severe. Doctors had to amputate both of his legs and his left arm. He also has some brain damage.

Right now, the family is trying to make sure they can still visit him. Parker's sister Kayla Newitt says with the price of gas and having family all over Texas and Louisiana it's getting harder and harder to visit.

"My parents live in Houston, we live here and everyone's trying to travel back and forth to San Antonio. We really want to be there because he does a lot better when family is around, " Newitt said.

The family has set up a facebook page called "Prayers For Zach" where they offer daily prayers and updates on Parker's condition. They are also planning on setting up a bank account in the near future if you would like to help out.

"If there's anything he can do for you, he's there to do it. He's put down his life literally for other people he doesn't even know," Newitt said.
