Iberia Sheriff's Office Makes Arrests For Check Fraud

On March 9, 2010 at approximately 03:00 pm the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint of individuals cashing and attempting to cash forged checks at two local banks. Deputies responded to the 1100 block of E. Admiral Doyle, Whitney Bank, and also to the 600 Block of E. Admiral Doyle, Mid-South Bank, New Iberia. Deputies apprehended two suspects who were attempting to cash forged Business checks. The suspects also went to the South Lewis branch of Mid-South Bank.
It was later learned that the two individuals were originally from the Dallas, Fort Worth area and brought to this area specifically for the intentions of cashing forged checks. The Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate the Driver and another passenger of the suspect vehicle who Detectives believe organized the scheme.


The description of the suspect vehicle is a white mini-van with a black male driver and black male passenger. The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office is asking any business or individual having contact with these suspects to contact Detectives at 337-369-3711.

The two individuals arrested are as follows:
· Maurice J. Cumby age 59 of 2542 Marfa St. Dallas, TX
· Joseph Webb age 22 of 2101 Hurley Ave. Fort Worth, TX

Both suspects are being charged with four counts of forgery and were booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
