Iberia Parish School Superintendent Dale Henderson says the budget for the upcoming school year may be tight.
Henderson says the system is facing "tremendous financial challenges" in the coming year. Three factors play into the financial forecast: an increase in the employer's share of retirement, an increase in group health insurance and the system's technological needs. He says those big ticket items are bound to have an effect on the budget. Add in flat funding from the state, and there could be trouble.
The board is just starting budget discussions and will most likely come up with a first draft next month. The new budget for 2013-2014 will be adopted July 1.
