NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - One of several Iberia Parish school system properties that was for sale is now off the market.
The Advocate reports the Iberia Parish Council approved last week the purchase of the former Grand Marais Elementary School in Jeanerette for $75,000, saying it planned to use the property for a park.
Councilman Roger Duncan said the property will be used to develop a "day park" with a playground and walking track. At this time, Duncan said there are no plans to use the old school building and it likely will need to be demolished.
The sale leaves about $1 million in Iberia Parish school-owned properties listed in the past year that are still for sale.
