The Iberia Parish Government will have to find another way to fund road projects after voters decisively shot down a new half-cent sales tax on Saturday.
The proposal was defeated by a 79-21 margin, with 3,956 voters saying "no" to the new tax. Only 1,063 voted in favor of the proposition.
The tax would have raised nearly $7.1 million dollars annually for ten years. Those funds would have been dedicated to the construction, improvement, and maintenance of roads and bridges in the parish. Some of those funds would have been given to the various cities and towns in Iberia Parish to improve their roads.
The Secretary of State's Office reports a 10.5% turnout for this election.
