NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - The Iberia Parish School Board has reviewed a budget statement that shows the system running a $3.7 million deficit.
Superintendent Dale Henderson told board
members on Wednesday that most of the shortfall, about $3.5 million, is because of an increase in the school system's retirement payments.
Henderson says an additional $850,000 of that shortfall is from a health insurance premium increase.
The board's fiscal year ends June 30, and Henderson said the
system is looking at budget cuts and halting spending where
possible. He did not specify where cuts could be made.
