Iberia Parish Fishing Rodeos

NEW IBERIA, La. - June 13, 2012 - Whether you enjoy fishing onshore or offshore, catching redfish or mackerel, there is a rodeo for you this summer in Iberia Parish.

The Iberia Rod and Gun Club will hold its 58th annual Fourth of July Fishing Rodeo June 29 - July 1, 2012, at Quintana Landing, LA 319, in Cypremort Point, La.

Fourth of July Fishing Rodeo: June 29 - July 1, 2012

Fishermen compete in four divisions: Junior, Inside, Runabout and Offshore. Species vary for each division. Participants can start fishing at 12:01 a.m. on June 29. Scales will be open under the pavilion from 3 - 6 p.m. on June 29, noon - 6 p.m. on June 30, and 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on July 1. Food and beverages will be sold on site.

"This year, we added more money to the Offshore division pay out," said Chad LeBlanc, event organizer. "Each fish is worth $500 and there are 13 fish in that division. We will be giving away over $10,000 in cash and prizes."

Every child who weighs in a fish in the Junior division will be eligible to win one of five lifetime fishing licenses. Event organizers will hold a drawing on July 1 after closing of the scales. Participants must be present to win.

The Iberia Rod and Gun Club will sell Calcutta tickets at its Boat Captain's Supper held on June 27 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the American Legion's Hall in Lydia, La.

Denise P. Breaux Memorial Redfish Derby: July 28, 2012

Redfish enthusiasts can compete at the 2nd Denise P. Breaux Memorial Red Fish Derby on July 28, 2012, from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Quintana Landing, LA 319, in Cypremort Point, La.

There will be a Kids Croaker division for a $200 academy gift card. Every fisherman will receive a towel and koozie. Participants can purchase food and refreshments on site. Event organizers will hold a live silent auction and Geno Delafose will entertain the crowd from 3 - 7 p.m.

Weigh-ins end at 3 p.m. There will be a 40 percent payback of the total amount collected for registration, which will be distributed as follows: 1st place - 35 percent, 2nd place - 25 percent, 3rd place - 20 percent, 4th place - 15 percent, 5th place - 5 percent, and 6th - 10th place - a 12 pack soft ice chest and a visor. $5 Calcutta will receive 50 percent payback.

Anglers should register in advance or before 8 a.m. on July 28 ($100 per boat). They can also attend a registration event on July 27 from 6 - 10 p.m. at the Quintana Landing pavilion, which will include refreshments, a redfish courtbouillon dinner and a DJ.

Organizers will distribute all proceeds back to the community through the Denise P. Breaux Memorial Fund. "The Redfish derby was put together in honor of my wife who passed away at 47 years old from liver cancer back in February 2011," said event planner Aaron Breaux. "This is my way of giving back to the community by granting money to different organizations, such as SNAP and the Humane Society, in her honor."

Derby participants can also bring can goods, household products and dog/cat food donations to the pavilion to benefit SNAP and the Humane Society.

August Angler's Addiction Fishing Tournament: August 11, 2012

Speckled trout and redfish anglers can attend the 5th August Angler's Addiction Fishing Tournament. The Lydia Cancer Association will hold this fundraiser on August 11, 2012, at Quintana Landing, LA 319, in Cypremort Point, La.

Registration starts at 5 a.m. ($100 per boat) and scales open at 3 p.m. Fishermen will receive complimentary hamburgers and drinks. Payouts are 1st prize - $500, 2nd prize - $300, 3rd prize - $200 and 4th prize - a $50 gift certificate. Payouts might increase if more than 50 boats owners register for the tournament.

Kay-Cee Council Labor Day Fishing Rodeo: Sept. 1 - 3, 2012

The Knights of Columbus - Council 3425 of New Iberia, La., will hold their 52nd Salt Water Fishing Rodeo at Quintana Landing, LA 319, in Cypremort Point, La.

The event begins on Sept. 1, 2012, at daybreak and ends on Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. with a prize distribution. Scales will be open from noon - 6 p.m. on Sept. 1 - 2, and from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Sept. 3.

Fishermen compete in 15 different types of fish and win prizes in Runabout, Inside and Children's divisions. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division. In addition the boat captain whose crew catches the most point fish over the weekend will also win an award and every qualified registrant is eligible to participate in the grand prize drawing. Winners will receive Trophies.

Participants can purchase tickets in New Iberia at Bayview Inn, Cajun Guns & Tackle, Dago's Mobil, Fortier Boat Works, Hebert's Mini Mart and Iberia Outboard & Marine. Tickets cost $15 for Inside division, $20 for Runabout, and $5 for Children's.

Proceeds will finance the religious and charitable work of the KC's and the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, including Boy Scout Troop 133, Iberia Homeless Shelter, Arc Angel School, and Iberia and Louisiana Special Olympics.
