Iberia Parish- Louisiana State Police detectives, with the Lafayette Field Office were requested by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting on Divine Street in New Iberia.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m., the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 2311 Divine Street in New Iberia, LA, in reference to a fight. Upon arrival, deputies observed 50 year old Mark Haas of New Iberia, LA, standing in the front yard of his house. As the deputies approached, Haas retreated into the house were he armed himself. Sheriff’s deputies as well as troopers with State Police Troop I, established a perimeter around the house. The Iberia Parish SWAT team responded to the location and deputies established communications with Haas. During the incident, Haas exited the house with a weapon and opened fire in the direction of officers. Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office returned fire fatally injuring Haas.
State Police detectives are continuing their investigation.
