Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a tresspassing complaint yesterday morning just after 7:30 am at Port Electic on Gulf Blvd and found five suspects stuck in the mud while working together to steal copper wire.
Upon Deputies arrival, deputies made contact with a person standing at the front gate of the business. This person was identified as Eric Chautin, 27, of Lafayette. Deputies determined that Chautin was not allowed on the property; and detained him before they continued to search the property. Deputies were able to locate two pickup trucks stuck in the mud and four other suspects around the immovable vehicles.
As deputies questioned the suspects, they observed cut copper wire near the two vehicles. Deputies were able to determine the wire was taken from Port Electric Company after an inventory was done of damaged items inside the business.
The suspects involved in the burglary are as follows:
Ron Michael Boutte, DOB 12/05/1969 of 306 Deer Meadow Blvd. Broussard LA. Charged with simple burglary.
Joseph Trahan, DOB 02/24/1985 of 55 Cherry Street, Alexandria, LA. Charged with principal to theft.
Lee Cook, DOB 03/14/1976 of 2104 Marye Street, Alexandria, LA. Charged with principal to theft.
Victor Goodman, DOB 09/04/1991 of 3602 L. Theriot Road, New Iberia LA. Charged with principal to theft.
Eric Chautin, DOB 12/02/1982 of 1108 Dulles Road, Lafayette, LA. Charged with principal to theft and possession of burglary tools.
All suspects were questioned by detectives and transported to the Iberia Parish Jail where they were booked in.
