BEAVER, Utah (AP) - Authorities say a standoff that shut down Interstate 15 in southern Utah has ended with the surrender of an armed man and the safe release of an infant he held hostage in his vehicle for five hours.
Utah Highway Patrol Capt. Barton Blair says 28-year-old Zeland Adams had been sought on an arrest warrant in a Louisiana murder until his arrest late Sunday afternoon near Beaver, about 210 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Blair says he had no details about the Louisiana case, but Adams was booked into the Iron County Jail on suspicion of evading authorities.
Adams is accused of threatening to harm the 2-year-old boy after his vehicle was stopped Sunday afternoon by spikes placed on the interstate by officers near Beaver, ending a high-speed chase.
