HAMSHIRE, Texas (AP) - A stretch of Interstate 10 in southeast
Texas will be closed until at least Wednesday after a wreck caused
a tanker truck to spill a hazardous chemical and left the driver
hurt.
Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange
(TEE'-luh manj) on Monday said I-10 is closed between Texas 73 and
Farm Road 365 near Hamshire, about 65 miles east of Houston.
Some homes were evacuated, as a precaution, after the accident
early Sunday in which the truck overturned in a collision with a
pickup.
DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis says the wreck caused the releils of
the flammable, corrosive chemical isobutane. Davis says the tanker
truck driver, 30-year-old Branden Swiney (SWEE'-nee) of Orange,
suffered non-life threatening injuries.
